If you play this Mecklenburg Greens course right after the Mecklenburg County Golf Club, you will have a feeling of “déjà-vu” (just like with my comments !), but it does not mean that this par 72 is not nice : indeed it is, with its wide open (and green) look and it might prove to be a little bit harder with its (often) narrow fairways and tiny greens. The opening par-4 hole is straight but it will test you on your approach as its small elevated green is partially hidden by trees, just like the par-5 3rd, a sharp dogleg, with trees on the left side of the fairway and its small green, again surrounded by trees. The par-3 5th hole is quite pretty with a small elongated lake on the right side of the green, whereas the right dogleg par-4 8th has a narrow fairway and requires a blind second shot over trees to reach the green. As for the par-4 9th hole, you will have to hit your tee shot short of a wide lake, midway, before aiming your approach over it to reach the green, slightly to the right. On the back 9, my favorite holes are the par-4 12th, with its narrow fairway and, again, a wide lake to watch for, halfway, and another second shot over it toward the green, the par-4 13th, slightly uphill all the way with a very tough approach to the green, guarded by a lone tree planted in the middle of an elongated bunker (to the right), and the par-4 14th, with more water to deal with and a very tiny green to aim for, with trees around. And just like on the Mecklenburg County Golf Club, you will finish with two nice holes, with the left dogleg par-4 17th, with an elongated bunker across the fairway, midway, and an elevated green, and the long left dogleg par-5 18th, with its beautiful green, with water halfway around. Overall, despite its similarity with the Mecklenburg County Golf Club, this par 72 is another enjoyable course (re)designed by Bruce Ryder, where you will have to hit good approaches to the greens if you want to finish with a... similar score !
