For those who may have encountered the same problem.
Yesterday when I tried to start up the game all I got was a black screen. I didnt even get passed the EA sports, its in the game -tune. I searched the fora and tried all sorts of things, but nothing helped. Untill I got an idea: If that EA-tune got corrupted in any way, and I would remove it, could that give me any result?
So I threw the darn thing out (; onto my desktop for safe-keeping ). That file is in the VIDEOS file and its called EAS.avi.
You can find the EAS.avi on path below:
C:\Program Files (;x86)\EA Sports\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\Data\Videos
Now I get a warning that the file cant be found. Just click CANCEL and forward we go on our quest for a better golf-world .
Not the most original Xmass story, but can be usefull to someone.
If ever theres a better solution for this problem, do let us know (; BTW I have a downloaded version of 2k8 ).

You can probably also use the No Intro Shortcut which can be done by right clicking on the Tiger Woods shortcut on the desktop, then clicking on properties. Under target, put in this:
{quotes}C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\bin\TW2008.exe{quotes}
TO:
{quotes}C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\bin\TW2008.exe{quotes}{space}/NOINTRO
quotes not displaying so added them in squiggle brackets
Win7 uses a different shortcut

Great catch, Joan!. This file has been a source of trouble since the 08 release.
A lot of us have known about it, but we tend to forget that as a source of trouble after all this time. It would be great if you could post this over at the EA TW PC forum ( it really should be a pinned topic.......)....

You can still play IP to IP online...but it suxs with just 4 players, but better than nothing LOL.....CHEERS
BTW: In ref to the EAS video file what the diff than the /NOINTRO switch ?? far a problems with TW08 ?. |

I had the same thing happen to me a few days ago and did a bunch of things to try to resolve, including:
1.Called HP and they had me do a bunch of checks.
2. Had me make sure my video card was up to date.
The only thing that worked was to uninstall TW 08 and reinstall. It then worked, but then my monitor had 2 borders on the left and right sides.
I then uninstalled AGAIN and reinstalled and now my screen is full view, but looks stretched and squatty. The club selection pop-up is big and it just does not look good. Not near as enjoyable play. Does anyone have any ideas I can try to help me out? The resolution selections within TW 08 makes no difference. I have an HP 2709m monitor.
I have been playing TW-08 for about 8 months on this puter with absolutely no problems and it looked super-great. Then all of a sudden it would not load (;black screen). Like I said, that now seems fixed, but graphics suck.
I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX260. Is that a good one? Or should I upgrade?
ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
I forgot to mention that this started shortly after I installed Adobe Photoshop. So, I uninstalled that and it didnt change my graphics, but I do think it had something to do with TW 08 starting not to load. When I uninstalled Adobe PS, it did ask me if I wanted to change my setting back to the way they were, so I thought I had it. But I guess not.

Hi Dave....
Did you try to do a system restore ? ( restore your pc to a previous date ).
You said your already tried to change the resolution setting in Tw08.
Maybe you can also try to change the resolution setting on your system ( right click desktop and change resolution settings of your display ).
Note: Also don t forget to do the confidence folder fix for slow loading holes:
When you start playing TW08 game, it is important to know there is a bug in the game:
When you played some courses you will see the loading times between holes are increasing, the game will become slower and slower.
Do next steps to solve the problem:
On desktop you will see folder: My documents........
inside look for: Tiger woods PGA tour 2008....and inside go to folder: Career.
Inside Career go to folder: Players.......and inside look for your playersname folder.
Now you will see folder: Confidence.....and inside you will find files:
Hole Type.tcn......and.....Shot type.tcn
Now right click both files ( hole.tcn +Shot type.tcn) and delete both files.
When you did this: restart TW08 game and play 1 hole on any stock course and close TW08 game.
Go back to same confidence folder and you will see both files are regenerated: but now they are very small size ( 85kb or something like that) Now right click both files ( Type.tcn......and.....Shot type.tcn) and choose : Properties....and check box: READ ONLY. Do this for both files.

Seems it is fixed now. My game looks great again. What I did was reinstall my video card drivers. Seems the upgrades fouled it up (why, I do not know).
I was originally going to do a system restore, but the only dates available were 1/2/2011 and I wanted to back a few weeks. Oh well....I'm golfing again.
Gunpower, you are a man amoungst men. Whenever my son and I play a custom game here at the house, he is always bellyaching about the time between shots. He wanted me to ask the question here in the forum and here you have it all.
I hope I don't screw it up!! LOL

Just discovered the "NOINTRO" comment near the beginning of this topic.
Amazing suggestion, really helped me avoid the black screen while the intro videos are playing.

I will check to see any effect on my installations of TW07 and TW06.
